Stacy Conn, DMD

dr conn Dr. Stacy A. Conn graduated magna cum laude from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky with a Bachelors of Science degree in biology. She received her dental degree at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and pursued a career in general dentistry for several years following graduation. Dr. Conn enjoyed working with the children in her general practice and decided to become a specialist in dental care for children. She then returned to the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry where she attended the two year specialty program for a diploma in pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Conn joined Dr. Mayhew’s pediatric and orthodontic practice in 1991. Her expertise in pediatric dental care and dedication to excel in her profession prompted her to pursue board certification by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. This voluntary effort in continuing education is unique in that it applies formal training with conventional continuing education and the real world of patient care, all reviewed and monitored by nationally respected peers in our field of specialty care.

Dr. Conn maintains active membership in several professional associations, serves on the Sports Medicine Team at Appalachian State University and is a part time clinical professor at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. She is involved in the local community, supporting multiple fund raising efforts with special interests in the Watauga Education Foundation, Hospice of Watauga County and the Watauga Community Foundation.

Dr. Martha Hardaway, DMD, MS

Dr. Hardaway received her undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later earned her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. During dental school she participated in scientific research and served as the president of the Student Research Association. She was a class officer and officer in the American Association of Women Dentists all four years of her training. She served as the Medical University’s Dental representative to the Presidential Scholars Program, an interdisciplinary group addressing public health issues in South Carolina. She then returned to UNC where she completed a three year advanced education certification from UNC Memorial Hospital and the UNC School of Dentistry in Pediatric Dentistry. Additionally, she did research in oral biology to receive a Master’s Degree in Pediatric Dentistry from the UNC College of Graduate Studies. During her residency she received training in growth and development of children and adolescents. She has extensive experience treating the preventive and restorative needs of children, adolescents and special needs patients.

Dr. Hardaway, who recently joined our practice in April 2007, completed the examination process and earned status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Hardaway serves on the Board of Directors for the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry (SSPD), and is the Director to the SSPD for the North Carolina Association of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Hardaway is a native of Conover, North Carolina. She enjoys traveling and regularly participates in mission trips to provide dental care to under privileged children. In her free time, she likes to ride bikes and snow ski.
